As storms moved out of North Texas around 5 a.m., [residents began assessing the damage from severe winds](. Oncor reported that at least 200,000 North Texans lost power due to the storms. About half of the outages were located in Tarrant County. The DART board plans within the next few days to send a letter, along with the resolution, to Dallas and the other cities served by DART. The letter will explain how [the Griggs plan]( might not be legal and could threaten DART's ability to pay its bond debt and serve Dallas riders. The pension fund is still struggling to find a solution for its solvency problems caused by overly generous benefits and bad investments. Irving ISD votes against resolution to show support for unauthorized immigrant students Going against a state-wide trend, the Irving school board has decided [not to back a resolution supporting unauthorized immigrant students](. During Monday night's board meeting, trustees voted 4-2, with one abstention, against the resolution that would have designated all Irving ISD campuses as "welcome and safe." Trustee Randy Necessary said there was no need for the resolution, since a 1982 Supreme Court case established that children must get a free K-12 education in the U.S. regardless of their immigration status.
