Ted Cruz defends family separation, as complaints about Trump border crackdown persists
Sen. Ted Cruz [defended the Trump administration's policy of separating parents from children]( when they're caught crossing the border illegally, saying that while such cases can be tragic, it's "inevitable" when people violate U.S. law.
"There's actually a court order that prevents keeping the kids with the parents when you put the parents in jail. So when you see reporters, when you see Democrats saying don't separate kids from their parents, what they're really saying is don't arrest illegal aliens," Cruz told KERA, the Dallas public radio station, in an interview that aired Monday afternoon.
The "zero tolerance" policy has been controversial since the Trump administration announced it last month. Thousands of families have been affected, with condemnation pouring in from south of the border and across the world, and from Democrats.

Why Texas' $2,500 electric car incentive won't apply to the most popular brand
Electric car shoppers are finding an unwelcome surprise in Texas' new alternative fuel incentives. The nation's most popular electric car [isn't eligible for the $2,500 cash-back deal the state is offering.](
Tesla, whose Model 3 now tops electric vehicle sales lists, has bucked the Lone Star State's requirement that cars be sold through dealerships. Started by PayPal co-founder Elon Musk, Tesla takes a newer approach by selling directly to customers via the internet.
However, the Texas legislation creating the alternative-fuel incentive applies only to cars sold in Texas. And although Teslas are often seen on local roads, they aren't sold in the state in the same way as other cars.

Why the Dallas City Council should bet on RedBird project in a big way
City Council members have long expressed their desire to correct economic and quality of life deficits that penalize southern Dallas residents. Wednesday, those leaders get to back up their words with a milestone vote.
On the council agenda is a request for City Hall to finance infrastructure work needed for the transformation of Red Bird Mall into Reimagine RedBird â the kind of high-quality, mixed-use development that the surrounding community has long desired.
We wholeheartedly recommend that council members say yes to this plan.

Why are allergies in Dallas-Fort Worth so bad? Curious Texas investigates
As summer approaches in D-FW, the time for sun, swimsuits [and insufferable allergies]( has come. Runny noses and watery eyes will soon plague Texans, and while some complain, others are curious about the cause.
Nat Dreyer, 67, of Allen, asked Curious Texas: âIs there a vortex or funnel cloud, directly over Dallas concentrating the air currents that control the pollen count?â
The question was an early submission to [Curious Texas](, an ongoing project from The Dallas Morning News that invites you to join in our reporting process. The idea is simple: You have questions, and our journalists are trained to track down answers.
