Thousands without power after storms packing high winds, lightning blow through Dallas-Fort Worth
[A line of thunderstorms that darkened skies in Dallas-Fort Worth on Thursday evening]( brought rain and gusty winds to some areas before petering out. Â
Some areas saw strong winds including Denton Enterprise Airport, which recorded a 68 mph gust, according to the National Weather Service.
The thunderstorms knocked out power to about 12,500 Oncor customers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and the agency was in the process of restoring service Thursday night, spokeswoman Connie Piloto said.
There were also some reports of small hail, but "none of it was that scary stuff," KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Rick Mitchell said, referring to [Wednesday's hailstorm]( that caused thousands of dollars in damage.Â

Lawmakers call for change after Pain & Profit series, but Abbott is silent
[Lawmakers are considering reforms after The Dallas Morning News published Pain & Profit,]( a yearlong investigation which found health officials are protecting a multibillion-dollar industry while thousands of patients are denied crucial medical care â often with devastating consequences.
Rep. Richard Raymond, a Laredo Democrat, announced a House Human Services committee hearing on June 20 specifically to discuss âinformation reported by The Dallas Morning News regarding Medicaid managed care and the Health and Human Services Commission.â
Also in the House, Rep. Sarah Davis said she wants an investigation into how millions in fines were reduced by the health commission, despite Gov. Greg Abbott's call for a crackdown on problem Medicaid contractors.Â
"It affected me a great deal," the Houston-area Republican said of The News' findings.

Parents of Plano massacre victims sue, saying bar that served shooter is partly to blame
Relatives of some of the eight victims of a massacre at a Plano home last year say [the bar and bartender who served the shooter before his bloody rampage are partly responsible for the deaths.](
On Sept. 10, Spencer Hight walked into the home of his estranged wife, Meredith Hight, and opened fire on the party she was hosting. Shortly before the shooting, Spencer Hight had been drinking at the Local Public House, a bar down the street from his wife's home that he was known to frequent.Â
A lawsuit, filed Thursday on behalf of the parents of three of victims, accuses the bar and bartender Lindsey Glass of being negligent in serving Hight, who is said to have been visibly intoxicated and waving around a knife while making alarming remarks.

Ted Cruz: 'Under no circumstances will I wear short shorts' in basketball game against Jimmy Kimmel
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel plan to go head-to-head in a game of hoops, tentatively scheduled for Father's Day weekend, with the loser donating $5,000 to the non-political charity of the winner's choice.
The catch? [Both men must wear "VERY short shorts," at Kimmel's request](.
It's a requirement Cruz isn't too keen about. Speaking Thursday at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's "Road to Majority" conference in Washington, D.C., Cruz decided to end his political remarks on a light note.
"I give you my earnest commitment: Under no circumstances will I be wearing short shorts and a crop top," Cruz told the crowd. "Nobody in America wants to see that."
