The Big Story
Love Field opening a 5,000 space parking garage just in time for the holiday rush
Dallas Love Field’s long-awaited third parking garage will open at noon Thursday, adding 5,000 spaces at the parking-strapped airport that’s seen its passenger traffic nearly double in the last five years.
[The completion of the $208 million project marks one of the last major milestones in an airport modernization program started in 2009]( that saw the main terminal overhauled to accommodate a surge in daily flights that came with the lifting of Wright Amendment Restrictions in October 2014.
Since then, annual passenger enplanements has risen from 4.7Â million to 7.8 million at the end of 2017. But the number of parking spaces failed to keep pace, to the point where garages were nearly or completely full during Thanksgiving, Christmas and other busy travel holidays.

Oncor plans to replace all transmission towers on the easement at Forest Lane and Dallas North Tollway. (Carly Geraci / Staff Photographer)

Why Oncor hasn't yanked out those 100 trees along the Dallas North Tollway yet
So I was wrong — all those trees along Dallas North Tollway, from Forest Lane up to Harvest Hill Road, are still standing a week after I wrote that they were chipper-bound within days.
Well, OK, not all the trees are still there. A few were axed a week ago, the morning my column — about how Oncor planned to cut them down to meet "the increased demand for electric power" by replacing old transmission towers — ran in print. That is some hustle.
But the rest of the timberline — stretching half a mile along the east side of the highway, the limbs and leaves of more than 100 trees visible over the sound wall — was spared by heavy rains that muddied up Oncor's transmission easement and made it impossible to summon the dozers.
[This tale has taken a few new twists and turns, too, since last week]( — the work of government or God, depending upon to whom I'm speaking. Both, I guess, work in mysterious ways.
