I can tell you personally they are far more likely to be enablers of the GOP’s Project 2025 — which seeks to wield the power of the presidency to remake the government in Trump’s authoritarian image. He could only do so with the help of the Senate. A Democratic Senate majority could block any far-right judicial nominees, including nominees to the Supreme Court. A Democratic Senate majority could stand in the way of the far-right takeover of federal agencies. A Democratic Senate majority could block any efforts to privatize Medicare and Social Security, extend and expand tax cuts for billionaires and megacorporations, and hand out more corrupt deals to MAGA political allies while thrashing the constitutional checks and balances that constrain any wannabe despot. If the party controlling the majority does not value their oaths of office or the constitutional system of checks and balances, they can do enormous damage. That’s why ensuring that Trump and his MAGA allies cannot drag this body of government under his thumb is paramount. I am determined to lead the effort to abolish the filibuster, protect voting rights, and bring much-needed reform to the Senate.
