Friend? an update for you - And, we responded quickly and decisively to Trump's dangerous proposal

Friend— an update for you [ACLU AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION] [DONATE] Dear Friend, With so much going on, I wanted to take a minute to update you on some key ACLU actions that your support is making possible right now — we are actively protecting and defending vulnerable people from attacks on their freedoms. Here are some highlights from the past two weeks. - Can the federal government put you in jail without so much as a hearing? [We argued this question in front of the Supreme Court last week.] - Over 240,000 ACLU supporters called on the Department of Justice to demilitarize the police force confronting the nonviolent protesters at Standing Rock. The ACLU will continue to pressure the DOJ to hold police fully accountable for civil rights abuses committed against water protectors. - Last Wednesday, we announced 3 new legal challenges to protect and expand access to abortion care. [Get the details on these important reproductive rights cases here.] - We produced this powerful video detailing the "6 ways we'll fight back" against any unconstitutional efforts by Donald Trump once he assumes the office of president. You can [watch it and share with friends now.] (Please note: This link takes you to a third party website, YouTube.com) - And, we responded quickly and decisively to Trump's dangerous proposal to punish people for burning the flag — a direct assault on the First Amendment. ACLU attorney [Lee Rowland wrote a great piece about our position.] We will continue to send updates and action alerts throughout the rest of the year. But with events unfolding at such a rapid pace, I also encourage you to follow us on [Facebook] and [Twitter.] Thanks for all you do, Anthony D.
