Haspel's torture record must be made public. Why? Because our action is forcing senators to pay attention to Haspel's role in overseeing torture – and the glaring gaps in her record. [Our advocacy is working, {NAME}. Let's keep it up – we can't allow the Senate to promote Haspel to CIA director without seeing her full record on torture and destroying evidence.](aaaaVY1gBNPGOT9aa?r=3_4B670A~amp;b=vpkqvpckdYnbygp74~2522eoYkj.emo~amp;j=m~amp;v=~amp;t=JfUD1nRTQr8gW8XRb4KnNdeU3DOqdLFMVelh~25070HCfXimMc9DH0ulia0gIHiHjhbhRAKBG~25070DICnxLlZ~254349uEul85XxtoFIUg5eYPlkQonM2cGI5wOw8UqCJdOGxSijReFeenuU4ZgNJ~25070HSLwzvvooowzsxr9k~25070HM0c3tzhUv9JZciPnjDRJVmD3UJYYT5oqD2xpxfiV1) Senate leaders are echoing our call to declassify Haspel's record, and the pressure is mounting. Trump's White House is feeling so backed into a corner that they've even started coming after us, saying that her nomination "will not be derailed by partisan critics who side with the ACLU over the CIA on how to keep the American people safe." They're starting to get nervous – and they should be. [Will you add your name to urge our senators to demand Haspel's complete record on torture and destruction of evidence?](aaaaVY1gBNPGOT9aa?r=3_4B670A~amp;b=vpkqvpckdYnbygp74~2522eoYkj.emo~amp;j=f~amp;v=~amp;t=JfUD1nRTQr8gW8XRb4KnNdeU3DOqdLFMVelh~25070HCfXimMc9DH0ulia0gIHiHjhbhRAKBG~25070DICnxLlZ~254349uEul85XxtoFIUg5eYPlkQonM2cGI5wOw8UqCJdOGxSijReFeenuU4ZgNJ~25070HSLwzvvooowzsxr9k~25070HM0c3tzhUv9JZciPnjDRJVmD3UJYYT5oqD2xpxfiV1) Today, Haspel is on the Hill facing senators' questions, so we need to make sure that our senators – and the public – know the full scope of her torture record. Only then can the Senate decide whether Haspel deserves to be our next CIA director. When the stakes are this high, we need to know more – Haspel's record must be made public. Thanks for taking action, Chris --------------------------------------------------------------- Hi {NAME} – President Trump is hell-bent on reversing the ACLU's work to eradicate torture: he just nominated Gina Haspel, a central figure in the CIA's Bush-era torture program, to be the new CIA director. Haspel is best known for running a secret "black site" torture prison in Thailand. In 2002, she reportedly supervised the horrific torture of men in American custody. The former CIA general counsel said Haspel had "run the interrogation program." And she had a key role in the destruction of 92 videotapes that documented the torture crimes. All these red flags make one thing clear: the Senate must stop Haspel's nomination until the CIA comes clean. The facts we already know are horrific, but we don't have the full picture or even close to it: most of her records are hidden or blacked out. [Tell your senators not to even start confirmation hearings until the CIA declassifies and publicly releases Haspel's full record on torture and destruction of evidence.](aaaaVY1gBNPGOT9aa?r=3_4B670A~amp;b=vpkqvpckdYnbygp74~2522eoYkj.emo~amp;j=g~amp;v=~amp;t=JfUD1nRTQr8gW8XRb4KnNdeU3DOqdLFMVelh~25070HCfXimMc9DH0ulia0gIHiHjhbhRAKBG~25070DICnxLlZ~254349uEul85XxtoFIUg5eYPlkQonM2cGI5wOw8UqCJdOGxSijReFeenuU4ZgNJ~25070HSLwzvvooowzsxr9k~25070HM0c3tzhUv9JZciPnjDRJVmD3UJYYT5oqD2xpxfiV1) Haspel's prison was the first to use the long list of CIA torture tactics. The torture included subjecting men to being repeatedly stripped, beaten, slammed against walls, waterboarded, slapped, starved, kept awake for days on end, and locked for hours in a coffin-like box. Press reports place Haspel in charge of the prison when a man was waterboarded multiple times. These torture methods became the basis for a program to torture scores of detainees held in secret CIA prisons. That Haspel was able to keep her job at the CIA and rise through its ranks shows a shocking lack of accountability. But it's even more disturbing that she could be sworn in as the head of the entire agency. The Senate – and more importantly, the American people – should know the full extent of Haspel's role in one of the darkest chapters in modern American history. Only then can senators understand the full scope of her torture record, and decide whether she deserves a promotion to CIA director. [Tell your senator: Demand that the CIA release every shred of evidence on her involvement with torture.](aaaaVY1gBNPGOT9aa?r=3_4B670A~amp;b=vpkqvpckdYnbygp74~2522eoYkj.emo~amp;j=h~amp;v=~amp;t=JfUD1nRTQr8gW8XRb4KnNdeU3DOqdLFMVelh~25070HCfXimMc9DH0ulia0gIHiHjhbhRAKBG~25070DICnxLlZ~254349uEul85XxtoFIUg5eYPlkQonM2cGI5wOw8UqCJdOGxSijReFeenuU4ZgNJ~25070HSLwzvvooowzsxr9k~25070HM0c3tzhUv9JZciPnjDRJVmD3UJYYT5oqD2xpxfiV1) After more than a year of Trump, we've seen gross violations of the constitutional principles of this country. But we must never stop fighting for what's right. It's up to us to hold Haspel accountable.
