Today's a great day to decriminalize marijuana. [ACLU]( Hi {NAME} – What better way to spend this 4/20 than fighting for marijuana legalization? Senate leaders Bernie Sanders and Chuck Schumer just announced they're on board. We're sparking major momentum toward decriminalizing marijuana nationwide. Yesterday, Senator Sanders announced he'd co-sponsor Senator Cory Booker's groundbreaking Marijuana Justice Act, and Majority Leader Schumer announced support for decriminalization. This joint effort brings us one step closer to legalizing marijuana at the federal level and reforming outdated, unjust, and racist drug policies. But progress on an issue like this doesn't happen unless all of us put pressure on every senator to act. That’s where you come in: [Tell your senators to join these Senate leaders – and the 64% of people in this country who want to decriminalize marijuana – and pass the Marijuana Justice Act now.]( This bill would help reverse the damage and injustice current drug policies have inflicted upon millions of people – particularly people of color. To this day, Black and brown communities are being decimated by police enforcement of drug laws that not only target them, but contribute to a mass incarceration system that rips apart families and destroys lives. Many people who are convicted of drug possession are locked up for disproportionately harsh sentences – and when they get out, they often lose the right to vote forever. And Jeff Sessions, who's rolled back much of our hard-won progress on drug policy reform, has admitted to his particular vendetta against marijuana. He once said he thought the KKK "were okay until [he] found out they smoked pot." [Sessions may not want to join the 21st century, but we can use the power of our majority in support of decriminalization to push the Senate to do the right thing. Send a message to your senators today: Listen to the people and decriminalize marijuana once and for all.]( We have to act now. We can't let our current policies continue to rip apart whole communities any longer.
