I have a 20-minute gap in my schedule this afternoon and wanted to reach out personally and update you on my campaign. 20 minutes might not sound like a lot – but as a practicing OB/GYN and working mom running for Congress for the first time – free time like this is rare. Especially with early voting starting here in Wisconsin tomorrow! This past week, my campaign launched our first major ads in our special election: [Before I go into detail, though, I’m asking if you’ll donate $10 so we can keep them running through Election Day (and you can watch it here by clicking this link!).]( If we win this race, I will be the only pro-choice OB/GYN in Congress out of 535 members. But I’m not running to make history – I’m running because I took an oath to do everything in my power to provide for my patients – and the best way to provide for them is outside of any clinic or exam room. It’s in Congress to put a stop to dangerous abortion bans and to champion the policies that will make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and higher quality. Like most of you, I believe medical decisions should be made between a care provider and the patient: Informed by their medical history, best practice, data and science, and what care they believe is the best course of action. There’s no room for a politician in my exam room and I don’t think they should be calling the shots about your care. The Republican I’m running against in this special election doesn’t agree with that. In fact, he believes states should be allowed to ban abortion without any exceptions. He sees no problem with Republican legislators or Governors interfering with your ability to access life-saving care. If he has his way, doctors like me wouldn’t be able to provide a life-saving D&C when a pregnant woman is hemorrhaging or on the verge of organ failure from sepsis in red states. Women wouldn’t have the choice to access an abortion under any circumstance – including even when the life of the mother is in jeopardy or if the pregnancy isn’t viable. Doctors and nurses who cross that line and provide care would be prosecuted and potentially jailed after having their medical license suspended. I personally sued to stop this dystopian nightmare from becoming a reality for my patients. And we were successful – our lawsuit reversed the 1849 total abortion ban that went into effect after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Now, I’m live on the air making my case to hundreds of thousands of voters: [Early voting starts tomorrow and I’m counting on this incredible team to chip in one more time before early voting kicks off so we can WIN the Wisconsin special election here in WI-8.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately processed and split between 314 Action and Kristin Lyerly. Since 2017, we’ve supported more than 500+ candidates and reached millions of swing voters on their behalf with our data-driven messaging campaigns. Our candidates led the charge to flip the House in 2018, the Senate in 2021, and a handful of state legislatures in 2022. Now, there are more scientists in office than at any point in U.S. history. No one is better equipped to craft policy to address pressing issues like gun violence, climate change, healthcare reform, or restoring reproductive rights than scientific professionals. Recent polling confirms that scientific and medical professionals have some of the highest approval ratings and levels of trust among voters – Meaning our candidates are better positioned to win tough races and can cut through the partisan divide! 100% of our work is powered by individual donations and our average donation is just $19. We plan on supporting more Democratic scientists and medical professionals in virtually every state this election cycle than at any point in our history. With you by our side, we’ll defend our Senate majority, retake the House, keep the White House blue, and elect a historic wave of Democrats to state legislatures and local office.
