How independent is the Nigerian judiciary?
It must have been the most embarrassing public duty Mr Justice Ibrahim Muhammad has performed so far as the Chief Justice of Nigeria. He did it with courage.
Still, it must have been pretty painful for him to publicly admit what we have always known but voiced in the relative safety of bar chats, to wit, the Nigerian judiciary is not independent. It is held on a short leash by the paymaster, the executive branch of government. [Read more](

The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) says it has not endorsed any candidate ahead of the 2023 elections.
The ruling party alleged that posters suggesting an endorsement were pasted by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in order to instigate crisis within the party.

A Nigerian female pastor identified as Busola Olotu has claimed in a recent interview that she attests to Busola Dakolo's claim that she was raped by Abiodun Fatoyinbo.
Reverend Busola Olotu, a clergywoman was seen as a mentor by Biodun Fatoyinbo. Olotu had an exclusive interview with media personality, Adesuwa Onyenokwe.

President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, on Friday, September 27, underscored the need to have a budget reform that will include a law on timeliness in budget passing.

The Kano State Government, on Friday, September 27, has dismissed allegations that it is planning to depose the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.

A non-governmental organization, the Association of Professionals for Promotion of Civic Values (APPOCV) released a statement on Thursday, September 26, cautioning the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over the mandate surrounding the cashless policy.

Lai Mohammed reveals Nigeria optimistic of setting aside 9.6bn judgment debt
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has expressed optimism that the entire arbitration decisions and judgment debt of N9.6 billion against Nigeria by a UK court over a botched gas contract would be set aside.
Lai Mohammed stated this in London on Friday, September 27.

The police in Kaduna on Thursday raided a home with over 300 people in Rigasa in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The cops freed about 300 people chained in the house, including children. They came from Burkina Faso, Mali and other African countries, according to the force.

Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei has reiterated he would like to license the companyâs extensive 5G networking technology to a single other company, ideally one from the U.S. His words came during a sit-down conversation with academics Jerry Kaplan and Peter Cochrane, which was livestreamed from China, and followed a similar statement given previously during an interview with The New York Times.
