The sheer volume of material can make devising ‘best of’ lists a flawed process - particularly in any ranked order - and we also like to give coverage to publications from emerging voices, or which are going unrecognised. We select eight or nine books for review in each of our quarterly print magazines, and top this up with longer interviews and book features in our online [Bookshelf]( section. This week we’ve published the book reviews from our new Portrait issue, and are also spotlighting Alicia Bruce’s I Burn But I Am Not Consumed, one of the successful books of the year. Keep scrolling to read our thoughts on editions by Ronit Porat, Keisha Scarville, George Maund and more. There are too many others that we’ve enjoyed this year to mention them all, but Simon Bray’s Dear Kairos, Liza Kanaeva-Hunsicker’s NYC Girls and Disko Bay’s excellent New Danish Photography 01 anthology are good places to start. The latest issue of The Eyes, guest curated by Chloe Dewe Mathews, is definitely worth a browse before Christmas too, as is Daniel Meadows' excellent [Book of the Road]( published by our friends at Bluecoat Press. These are the most exciting photobooks out this winter Our final books roundup of 2023 takes us from Belgium to Lahore to Berlin and beyond, with entries from Jason Koxvold, Keisha Scarville and Tami Aftab [Read more]( [Build the way you want]( Portrait Issue #7916 The 2023 edition sees artists, writers and curators bring the freshest perspectives to this most storied photography format. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
