For better or worse, the expansion of higher education has led to a proliferation of interdisciplinary courses relating to the study of art â especially at postgraduate level â meaning weâll be keeping a keen eye on how photographic practices interact with digital media, visual culture, communications and even data studies over the coming weeks. Letâs run down a few upcoming shows from courses that have had particularly strong showings in recent years. And congratulations to all exhibiting and graduating students; we hope to be featuring some of your work in the magazine soon. We begin in Scotland, where [Glasgow School of Art MFA]( students opened their degree show at the Glue Factory last Thursday. Their undergraduate fine art photography peers joined them the day after, in a city-wide showcase running until 09 June. Over the water in Belfast, a display of works from Ulster Universityâs BA photography with video and MFA photography students is open to the public from 06 June, with the MFA work on show at [Belfast Exposed]( until the end of the month. Final year photography students from the [University of the West of England]( launch their traditional takeover of Peckhamâs Copeland Gallery on 13 June (the evening opening is always fun), and the following week, fine art and photography students from [Swansea College of Art]( present Unpeeled at the same venue. Out west, [Bath Spaâs photography (and fashion photography)]( undergrads will show alongside textile, graphics and furniture students for a week from 15 June at the Locksbrook Campus. In London, the [University of East Londonâs photography (and commercial photography)]( undergrads display work at the Docklands campus, with speeches and performances from 7pm on the opening evening on 07 June. Many students will be brought together for [Free Range]( at Truman Brewery on 20 June, featuring photography undergrads from Westminster, Central Lancashire, Hertfordshire, Falmouth, Newcastle, and many more. Check out [Central Saint Martinsâ MA and Art Research Masters]( (with digital, exhibition, moving image, and philosophy pathways) studentsâ work from 16â19 June â this oneâs in the main Granary Square building. A little further down the line are [Goldsmithsâ postgrads]( the digital media (both image-making and data visualisation strands) and photography students will open their shows the evening of 11 July. Away from the traditional universities, look out for [Boomsatsumaâs first-ever graduate show]( on view at Bristolâs Royal Photographic Society from 15â30 June. And remember, there are always online platforms where you can view studentsâ work, from the [UAL Showcase]( to [Source]( which features curated work from many of the courses mentioned above.
